Why do we love sheepskin and wool so much?
1. Natural, renewable, sustainable, 100% biodegradable fibres
Wool is a naturally strong fibre, it can be bent back on itself 20,000 times without breaking! This means it is long lasting and resilient compared to other synthetic fibres. It is also a great choice for minimising damage to our environment as when it finally does come to the end of its long shelf life, it will biodegrade and release valuable nutrients back into the soil.
2. Warm in winter and cool in summer
Sheepskin wool is naturally thermostatic. Its breathable fibres are hollow and can absorb up to a third of their own weight in moisture. In the summer, perspiration is absorbed by the fibres allowing the body to stay cool and comfortable. In cooler temperatures these fibres insulate by capturing and returning warmth released by the body. Babies, in particular newborns with their fragile temperature mechanisms, can remain comfortable and dry throughout the seasons.
3. Antibacterial, self cleaning and easy to care for
Sheepskin and wool products naturally resist wet and dry soiling which means they don’t require frequent washing – welcome news to any parent! What’s more, sheepskin wool contains lanolin which is naturally antibacterial.
4. Aids relaxation and sleep
With the softness, springiness and temperature regulating qualities of wool and sheepskin, whether a baby is lying on a fleece or clothed in wool, they will feel more comfortable and are more likely to relax and sleep well.
5. Allergy friendly
Despite its heavy moisture content, wools dry porous nature repels mildew and dust mites making wool and sheepskin products a favourable choice for allergy sufferers.
6. Naturally flame resistant
Due to its unique chemical structure and moisture content, wool is naturally flame resistant and difficult to ignite.
