How to Make a Pram More Comfortable

Keeping your baby comfortable in the pram is fundamental to enjoying walks with your little one.  A comfortable and happy baby in the pram leads to a much more enjoyable time out and about so we have some handy hints and tricks to help you out.

1. Comforters or comfort blankets

Introducing a super-soft blanket to your pram will not only keep them warm in winter months, but will naturally soothe them, particularly if it is a familiar blanket. Many babies have a comfort blanket with a favourite texture which they hold on to and rub to self soothe – we know lots of parents say that their little ones always feel for the blanket label and hold on to this. Some blankets are even available with similar ‘taggies’ for comfort Lullaby Lane have a good range.  It doesn’t really matter whether it’s a comforter, comfort blanket or any other fabric your baby loves – the key is familiarity to calm your baby.

2. Head & Body Cushion Support

Many modern prams come with great support for newborns – but if not, your baby could be uncomfortable!  Since they cannot support their own weight, they would likely benefit from a full body cushion designed especially for little ones to evenly distribute their weight and allow them to sit back and relax.  These will often readily transfer to a car seat to offer support and comfort there too.

3. Shoulder strap covers

Many prams have padded shoulder straps or removable cushioned strap covers but if not we think they are a good investment.   Having straps over the shoulders can leave baby with skin that is itchy, irritated and sore. Always ensure that the shoulder straps are adjusted so that your baby’s skin does not touch the bare strap.  That little bit of added protection and comfort for your baby is well worth the small cost of the covers.

4. Pram liners

Pram liners come in a variety of colours, shapes and textures and keep your pram clean and protected as well as ensuring a comfortable ride for your baby. We recommend our snuggly sheepskin liners as the deep pile in the sheepskin cushions baby and ensures that their weight is supported. Many babies find the texture of sheepskin naturally comforting, and its thermostatic properties help babies regulate their temperature.
